Director of Supply Chain

Description:Outdoor Research has built a company focused on functionality, trust, and authenticity. They use this same lens when looking at and adding to their employee base. The focus of this position is also quality. The Director of Supply Chain will stand at an intersection and they need an expert who can be an advocate for the Supply Chain function throughout the organization and deliver outstanding service.  It's critical that the Supply Chain Director is able to not only execute flawlessly but they must embody the ability to communicate and work cross-functionally with the rest of the director team.

This position is challenged to regularly consider variables, exercise sound analysis and judgment, and influence the thinking of others and resolve conflicts in assessing relative capabilities of vendors and managing contracts. He/she will also be responsible for redefining relationships ith business partners such as suppliers of raw materials and shippers. The Director of Supply Chain must continually reevaluate production, and develop plans and new processes to support planned business growth.

Duties: 

Key Responsibilities:

· Direct the activities for the Inventory Planning Dept. Key functions to include the execution of:

- Seasonal capacity plans by style and by vendor

- Season inventory buy plans by style and category to align with budget revenue targets

- Regional inventory allocation to OR's warehouse locations in USA / Canada / Europe and OR's factory direct ship distributors

- Review and approve all fabric dye lot or factory price surcharges

· Work with the Planning / Quality-compliance / IS teams to develop timely, accurate, automated reporting of key supply chain metrics

- Stock turns by region and product category

- On time delivery performance by product category and vendor

- Order fill rate % by category / customer / style

- Returns and quality claim reporting by style / product category / vendor

- Purchase price and freight landing cost variances

· Direct the activities of Quality / Compliance Manager to execute;

- Signed vendor agreements with all 3rd party contractors

- Administration of vendor charge backs for quality claim

- Factory quality inspection activities for each season

- Administration of CPSIA or other government reporting requirements

· Manage the activities of OR's WIP tracking / QC inspection agency (Banner Global

Sourcing Service) in Taipei to execute:

- WIP tracking for sales sample and bulk production orders with all Asian vendors

- Final and in-line QC inspection (as directed by the OR QC Manager)

- Verification testing and approval of bulk production fabrics

- New vendor sourcing and verification

· Develop annual operating and budget plans for Inventory Planning and QC-Compliance departments. Work with the Finance dept to plan forward cash projection estimates based on inventory buy plans.

· Represent the Inventory Planning and QC-Compliance teams at cross department and Director team meetings.

· Work with VP of Operations on:

- Sourcing / set up of new vendors

- Annual vendor capability and performance evaluations

- 3 year strategic and 1 year operating plans for the Supply Chain team

· Other projects as directed by VP of Operations.

Key Partnerships:

· Design

- Performance standards and supplier details for raw materials

- Preliminary forecast estimates by style (aligned to revenue targets)

- Factory allocation / loading by style and product category

- Resolution of product quality issues / vendor charge back claims

· Warehouse Distribution

- Inbound delivery status of production orders

- Case lot packing and labelling requirements

- Cycle counts / Inventory transfers

· Customer Service / Sales

- Inventory allocation by region

- Timely / accurate delivery status info

· Marketing

- Product packaging / POS vendor selection

· Finance / Legal

- Vendor agreement contracts

- Inventory aging reporting

- Cash flow projections

· Information Systems

- Inventory inquiry and exception reporting

- Regional inventory allocation tools

- Management dash board reporting of key metrics

Qualifications:
  •   4 year college degree.
  •  Minimum 8 years work experience in a comparable level position in supply chain or inventory planning.
  • Experience working with Asian manufacturing and importing (communication style, negotiation, legal standards, etc...)
  •  Inventory planning / Factory Operations / Product Development experience in the Outdoor, Winter or Active Sport industry.
  •  Awareness of technical featuring/user requirements for technical outdoor apparel / accessories
  • Familiar with North America and European technical Outdoor apparel and accessory market.
  •  Knowledge of industry standards and programs for quality assurance, material testing, and corporate social responsibility
  • Knowledge of ERP planning systems
  • Recent experience at fast growth rate company, preferably +$50M in annual total turn over.
  • Personally participates in one or more of the sports addressed by OR.
