Description:Outdoor Research is seeking a new Retail Store Assistant Manager to join our one and only retail location in our Seattle headquarters.  Our company's Core Mission is to provide innovation and inspiration for the relentless outdoor adventurer.  The Assistant Store Manager will assist the Retail Store Manager in establishing and maintaining retail customer service, ensuring maximum profitability and filling in the job duties of the Retail Store Manager while he/she is away.   Please visit us at for more information.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Ensures Legendary Service.
  • Maintains and trains store staff on procedure for Infinite Guarantee/Warranty-Return processes.
  • Plans and maintains the store's appearance using OR visual merchandising standards.
  • Trains and develops staff on 4 Steps to Selling and product knowledge.
  • Creates and Maintains an AM Morning Duties Program. 
  • Covers lunches and floor shifts as needed.
  • Sets a positive example of professional conduct.  Coaches staff on professional conduct.
  • Sets a positive example of safe workplace conduct.  Supervises staff on the safe use of store equipment.
  • Coordinates receiving of all orders.
  • Manages store cycle count calendar and inventory movement to sync with Store Manager's ordering schedule.
  • Establishes goals for staff and assists them in attaining these goals.
  • Ensures time management for self and store staff by using the store project list, Outlook Calendar and store schedule.
  • Assumes the duties of the Store Manager when gone.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages four full-time employees, two part-time employees and four on-call employees in the retail store.
  • Actively develops staff for expanded responsibilities; anticipates resource requirements from growth.
  • Fosters a cohesive, productive team of employees serving both internal and external customers.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, education, and/or ability required.

  • Two years or more of Retail experience.
  • One year of Supervisory experience
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills, experienced with MS Office products.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read/interpret basic financial measures and reports.
  • Familiarity with the Retail POS System required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and lift. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 10 to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving
mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
